• This must be the place

Grand Lake. A natural beauty nestled at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Glaciers along the Continental Divide formed the largest natural lake in Colorado we now call home. Established in 1881, snowmobiles weren’t commercially produced until the 1950’s - so how did we get named the “Snowmobiling Capital of Colorado”?

  • streets are paved in snow

During peak season when the snow is at its highest and the temps are at their lowest, you can ride straight from the highest peaks in the forest all the way in to downtown Grand Lake. Toss the car keys into the snow drifts, you won’t need them here!

  • Smiles for miles

125 square miles of backcountry terrain and trails all waiting to be explored! Over 300 miles of trails take you from lakes, to towns, to mountain tops and national parks. Don’t worry, we have maps and signs to help you navigate the whole thing!

  • Whoops? Not here.

Every night, we groom nearly 80 miles of trail our system so you don’t have to spend your ride on trails destroyed over multiple days and weeks of traffic. Wake up each day to beautiful, fresh groomer tracks to get you, your suspension and your shoulders where you want to ride, faster.

  • Did someone say pow?

It’s no surprise the Snowmobiling Capital of Colorado gets snow. At 8,400 ft in downtown Grand Lake, you can expect about 140” inches of snow each year. However, the riding is in our backcountry, where you can see over 300” of accumulated snowfall each year at 10,000+ feet.

  • Bring the family!

Yes! Kids of all ages can ride on a snowmobile with an adult. The trails are smooth and a snowmobile from On the Trail Rentals comes with a passenger seat and grips. Just be prepared for snow angels. Snowball fights. Snow castles. More snow angels. And probably more snow angels.

TRAILER PARKING

Located right on the Stillwater Pass Snowmobile Trail, Idleglen Trailhead Parking Lot is the ONLY designated overnight camping and trailer parking area for this riding zone. No reservation necessary.

This lot is a great option for parking your trailer if you want to be close to town, but also don’t want to risk the snowmobile trail to town being closed. This is a new lot for the 2025 season and located across the street from the Conoco gas station.

If the snowmobile trail into town is open, this lot is a great option unique to the Town of Grand Lake. Ditch the car keys, you can ride your snowmobile through town and all the way back to the trail system trailheads.

HIGHWAY 125 TRAILHEAD PARKING

(West of Grand Lake and Granby)

The snowmobile trail system can be accessed from the west corridor from Hwy 125. There are two trailheads, Kauffman and Stillwater. Both can be found on the the Grand Lake Snowmobile Trail System Map. F0r more information, reach out to the forest service and check back for the latest trail status updates.
